A
Page of Life
As
I now look at this blank page of life
I wonder what events will fill its lines--
Injustice, sorrow, death, despair, and strife;
Or peace and love, a star that brightly shines?
Soft words that represent one's life so dear,
Bold phrases pierce the reader's sense of brawn;
Our lives, the text for which the words are smeared,
Live long after our flesh and bones are gone;
For words record our lives of joy and sorrow,
Once written down, a record bound, all's said--
Yet men live on with all hope for tomorrow
With faith to make a life much better read.
A life undimmed and neatly written down
Shall leave a man in peace, forever sound.
